Many states have created AED legislation, cardiac screening protocols and
funding, and cardiac education events.
In our short existence we have already accomplished a start locally:

An AED was donated to the local High School in 2004, and
10 more AEDs have been donated in Joe's memory to Maine schools
An emergency plan was created by the school's Emergency Response Team.
Training is expanding in 3 Waldo County high schools to include more staff,
coaches and students.
Our local legislators are working with the Maine Department of Education to
enact Policy for Athletic Safety and Emergency Response Procedures.
The Maine Principals Association now urges all Districts in Maine to use
the recommended PPE endorsed by medical professional organizations AND to
develop Emergency Response Plans to include Athletic events.
We are working with national efforts of research, education, and support, such as:

Maine Center for Disease Control, Center for Cardiovascular Health Programs
National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injuries Research
American Heart Association
Parent Heart Watch
National Athletic Trainers Association
Cardiac Science
